Olaf Van Cleef
(b. Paris, France,
11th December 1950)
Traveller, Artist and Author.
Scion of the Van Cleef dynasty, Olaf is a councellor on high range jewellery at Cartier since 1982. Also an artist and a painter residing in Paris, Olaf has held several exhibitions in India.

His style of painting is based on abstract pointillism and tachisme. His technique consists of softening the irregular dabs of bright watercolours with multiple dots in white. He also uses metallic paper and Swarovsky crystals.

His style of tachisme, which he acquired from having painted often using just his fingers, is characterised by spontaneous lines reminiscent of calligraphy.

In charge of Cartier mission in India on several occasions between 1989 and 2002, Olaf Van Cleef has published a travelogue entitled "From Darjeeling to Pondicherry" (Paris, Le Semaphore, 1998).
