Collection: Multicolour
In my earliest memories I have always been surrounded by black. The kitchen in my first apartment was black. Like the bathroom and even the sheets. Then one day everything changed. The apartment I lived in at 35 West 81 Street had white-enameled parquet floors. As did later the Park Monceau apartment. When I got to painting, it was in the darkest of nights, but I had to put colours in all these little circles and tiny squares. Green, red and yellow arrived as liberating colours, full of joy. I will never forget this little child who, laughing at me, tried to show me in the boughs of a jacaranda pink hippopotamuses jumping from branch to branch.
